Council admits ‘mistake’ over parking signs in town as people wrongly fined
A Spalding councillor has admitted that the county council has made a ‘mistake’ and has put up the wrong parking signs in the town centre. At a Spalding Town Forum meeting on September 30, chairman Rob Gibson (Reform UK) said that Lincolnshire County Council has wrongly put signs in Spalding saying no parking was allowed all day. Coun Gibson, who is also the deputy leader of the county council, said the signs were meant to say that there should be no parking in the town centre between 10am and 4pm – and that people incorrectly fined would now see their fines cancelled. Coun Gibson said: “The Spalding Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has been in place for decades. “It means no vehicles are allowed to park in the town centre between 10am and 4pm, but it has never really been enforced. Two years ago, we asked what people wanted. The majority of people said they wanted the town to be free of cars which is what we’ve been working on since then but it has taken forever to implement.” Coun Gibson, who represents the Spalding East ward on the county council, went on to say that the county council has acknowledged its mistake and is working to get the signs changed. He added: “The signs are now up but the county council has made a mistake and the signs say no parking full stop – 24 hours a day. “That is wrong. It’s not what we asked for. There’s supposed to be no parking between 10 and 4. Anyone who has received a fine after 4pm, it will be voided. The county council is now working to correct its mistake.”
