A new JD Wetherspoon pub has officially opened its doors near Lincoln. The Hykeham Manor pub launched on Wednesday, October 1, after months of hard work went into transforming a former Brewers Fayre site. The new pub, named after a once well-known local building, is a new franchise agreement with the family-owned business, The Papas Group. The company will be investing more than £1m into developing the pub on Roman Way, off Newark Road in Hykeham. The pub has created 60 new jobs for the area, and is still looking to hire more staff members. The pub manager Rachel said: “We opened at 8am, and we had a few teething problems at the start but those have been ironed out. “We have a lot of regulars that come to our other Wetherspoons pubs in Lincoln that have come down to see what it’s like, and lots of customers that used to come to the former pub that was here. We have had consistent trade all day and we are looking forward to seeing what it’s like this weekend with more people not at work. “We have had some really positive feedback from customers so far.” The site specialises in real ales and traditional ciders, as well as craft and world beers. The pub also serves a wide range of different draught ales, as well as bottled beers from local and regional brewers. Around the site there are historical photos and details about local history, such as artwork and images of local scenes displayed in the pub.Dex and Ali Sanders live locally and decided to visit the pub to see what it is like. Dex said they used to visit the former Brewers Fayre pub at the site years ago with their grandchildren. He said: “We came here because it’s day one and we don’t work and it was pleasantly quiet.” They just visited for drinks but say they “will come back for food another day.” The 63-year-old described it as being “great value” and is pleased they came in. His wife, Ali Sanders, said: “It’s excellent for a first day how they are managing with the amount of people. “They are absolutely amazing, there’s no queues or upset customers, it’s fantastic. It’s a credit to the staff, they have done a great job on the first day.”Another couple visiting the pub is Melvin and Ann Ridgway from Lincoln. Mel, who is retired, said: “We are just here for drinks today, we try and go to every Wetherspoon we can find.” He shared that this is the 55th Wetherspoons site the pair have visited, and once they went to five in a weekend. The 68-year-old said: “The drinks are the right price and the food is good, it’s middle of the road, it’s ok, you know what you are getting and you find the value is always good.”Ann, 65, added: “There’s a car park which you don’t always get at a Wetherspoon, and the toilets are on the same floor.” The Hykeham Manor pub will be open from 8am until 11.30pm Sundays to Thursdays and from 8am until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Its wheelchair accessible, and is open for family dining. Children are welcome up until 9pm in the pub throughout the week when they are accompanied by an adult.
