Village GP surgery in Lincs reopens for patients under new management
A surgery and dispensary in a Lincolnshire village is reopening for patients. The Spilsby Surgery site was temporarily closed last week with immediate effect. The closure was announced by the NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board on Monday, September 29. All registered patients at the practice were told they would instead be receiving care by the Lincolnshire and District Medical Services (LADMS) on a temporary basis. It has now been confirmed that the surgery and dispensary will reopen to patients on Monday, October 6, from 9am. The surgery site and dispensary are now being run by LADMS, which is registered with health watchdog CQC. A spokesperson for the NHS Lincolnshire Integrated Care Board said: “We anticipate there will be high demand, which we will be prioritising on clinical need. We advise those patients who can to contact the surgery later in the week to manage any routine matters. “Lincolnshire and District Medical Services (LADMS) will be prioritising urgent appointments, medications, and test results. The Co-op Pharmacy staff in Spilsby are working very hard to clear a significant backlog, with significant progress in the past 24 hours, while maintaining safe and efficient dispensing. “ICB staff have been supporting patients and staff at the Co-op Pharmacy to help speed up prescription access.” The dispensary site is run alongside the doctors’ surgery and dispenses medications that have been prescribed, whereas a pharmacy can fill prescriptions as well as sell over-the-counter medicines and provide some services.

ICB staff also ran a drop-in session at Franklin Hall on Friday, October 3, to ensure as many people as possible had access to the latest information. The spokesperson continued: “Our team continues to prioritise urgent patient enquiries. “We will continue to share communications updates via our local partners, councillors, websites, and social media, included in which is a request to people to only contact NHS 111 for urgent repeat medication, and to use other local pharmacies if possible. “People who have enough medication can help us by waiting, since this will help us support those in greatest need. We would like to thank everyone for their continued patience and kindness towards pharmacy and NHS staff.” The Spilsby site was initially closed due to its partnership being removed from the CQC register. A CQC spokesperson previously said: “CQC removed Spilsby Surgery’s partnership from the CQC register, following the departure of partners without proper notification to CQC. “By April 2025, only one partner remained, meaning the original partnership no longer existed as the legal entity that was registered with CQC. Despite CQC’s attempts to engage with the remaining doctor to establish appropriate registration, they did not respond within the required timeframe. “The removal was completed on 15 September this year. This action was administrative rather than enforcement-related, updating the register to reflect that no legal entity remained. CQC has engaged with the local integrated care board throughout to ensure people were not left without access to healthcare.”
