Residents love ‘tranquil’ Lincs village that surrounds an Elizabethan manor house

Uncategorized Article

Residents love living in a “tranquil” village surrounding a major landmark. Doddington Hall is a stunning Elizabethan manor house in Doddington, surrounded by picturesque countryside despite being just a short drive away from Lincoln. The whole village is centred around the hall, and residents say the cafe and farm shop have been “convenient” additions over the years. Despite the tourists that flock to the family-owned hall each year, whether it be for its famous pumpkin patch or popular Bauble Barn, the village remains a lovely place to live. Ged Marston, 82, has lived in the village for years. He said: “It used to be very quiet but now there’s a lot of activity with having the cafe, which is good, and we have a farm shop now as well which is very convenient. Where I live it’s a very quiet lane, which is another plus.

“There’s lots and lots of walks here and we do get a lot of dog walkers here as well, and on a Saturday morning there is the Parkrun here, which is very popular. They have a few hundred people come out for it.” Retired Malcom Cox has spent almost the last 40 years living in Doddington after moving in 1988. He said: “I used to live in Lincoln when I was a child and, when I was about 11 years old, like everyone else did, I would cycle around Doddington and all of this area.” The 81-year-old described the village as “lovely” and added: “I’ve always loved the area. It’s very good for coming into Lincoln.” He shared that it was also good for things like dog walking and cycling. His wife, Jill Cox, added that Doddington is a “fantastic” place to live. She worked in the village and said it is a perfect location for “being able to go wherever, whether it’s north or to Lincoln, it’s so central.” The 81-year-old added: “It has completely changed, but I don’t mind. It’s great for walking the dogs.”

Tom Robinson moved to Doddington around a year and a half ago. When asked what attracted him to the area, he replied: “When we drove into Doddington, it was the peace and the tranquillity, as it were. “It has a lovely sense of community and it has a heart as well with the hall and all that. It’s very beautiful.” The 37-year-old says that the cafe and shop is helpful, but even though it’s busy at the hall, down his lane “all I hear are the birds”. He says the peace and quiet is his favourite thing about Doddington. Tom added: “The Parkrun is also very good.” He also feels that “there is a heart here” in the village, and that neighbours talk to each other and everyone offers help when needed.
